The Times They Are a-Changin’ – At Least For The Boyscouts
The times they are a-changin’…who knew Bob Dylan would still be right 46 years after he wrote those lyrics, but it’s true. You see it everywhere and one group that has been feeling it is the Boy Scouts of America.
The Boy Scouts Tradition
I remember when I was in school you always knew which boys were Scouts because they would wear their uniform to school on the days of their meetings. They all looked so cute and were so proud of that uniform, but times have changed and because of allegations of sexual abuse, homophobia and the exclusion of those who don’t believe in organized religion many schools are no longer sponsoring Scout troops.
President addresses our nation’s youth
President Obama addressed school aged children across the country in his second Back-to-
School address.
He told kids “to study hard, focus on your education, take responsibility for learning, and ask for help if you need it,“ according to http://www.c-span.org/.
The contents of the speech were released the night before the speech was given because last year there was controversy surrounding his address to students. Last year many parents around the country were concerned the President would use the speech as a way to push political agendas. This year it seems that some schools chose to show the speech while others did not, but there was none of the controversy of last year.
